THE COX KIDS FOUNDATION FUND AWARDS $10,000 GRANT TO AID HOMEFRONT SAN DIEGO SUPPORTING THE CHILDREN
SAN DIEGO, CA - August 16, 2010 – The Cox Kids Foundation Fund at the San Diego Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to the San Diego Council Navy League for Homefront San Diego’s “Supporting the Children” program.
Homefront San Diego Supporting The Children is a major program of the San Diego Council Navy League utilizing all donated resources from the grant to provide assistance to children of active duty military.
“This funding will allow Homefront San Diego to continue its program of helping young military families with essential items such as Baby Cribs, Car Seats, Strollers and Diapers.” stated Phyllis Barber Vice President of Military Support and Homefront San
Diego.&nsp; “Currently the largest demand for assistance is to support newborn children and emergency food supplies.”
Since 1999, the Cox Kids Foundation - the philanthropic arm of Cox Communications - has raised nearly $3.5 million to support children and families in need in the areas of health, education and social services throughout San Diego County. A
fund of the San Diego Foundation, the Cox Kids Foundation is supported by 1,000 employees who donate funds from their paychecks that are matched 100 percent by Cox Communications. For 2010, the focus area for grants was to provide
programs and services to support local family members of active military personnel, including spouses and especially children.
The mission of Homefront San Diego's “Supporting the Children” program is to provide a hand up to the youngest members of military families during their time of need.
About the Navy League
The Navy League of the United States, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian
organization dedicated to the education of our citizens, including our elected officials, and the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families.
Homefront San Diego (HFSD) is a Non-Profit program organized under the San Diego Council of the Navy League of the United States started shortly after 9/11/01. The purpose of this all-volunteer organization is to support the San Diego
enlisted Military Families in the time of need. The organization broadcasts on KOGO AM 600. Since its beginning nearly 10 years ago, Homefront San Diego has been able to help over 10,000 families in San Diego, and will continue to
operate as long as our service members and their families need a helping hand.
